Expertise in Safety Training

TPSDI imbibes Tata Power's core value that "Safety is a core value over which no business objective can have a higher priority." TPSDI also adopts the Safety Vision of Tata Power, "To be a leader in Safety Excellence in the global power and energy business."

TPSDI achieves this Safety Vision, by developing "People competence in safety through strong awareness and skills in safety processes and standards". TPSDI has developed a suite of safety training that inculcates safe behaviour based on strong competence in Safety.

TPSDI's comprehensive safety curricula addresses various competencies:

Foundation Safety Competencies: Under these levels are categorized the basic and minimum general safety skills that all in an organization and its contractual workforce are expected to know. For example, the safety awareness and skills to identify and use fire extinguishers depending on the type of fire.

Critical Safety Competencies: Under this level are categorized the job-specific safety skills and behaviours that are unique for each role. For example, the safety precautions to be followed by a rooftop solar panel installer. It includes safety leadership or management skills required of a job supervisor or an employee leading a project. For example, delivering a toolbox talk specific to the hazards and safe work practices at a job site prior to the commencement of a job.

TPSDI's training enables people to advance through certification levels and acquire higher level
certificates as they progress in training and skill.

TPSDI's training design enables people and organisations to:

To build skills, TPSDI takes trainees beyond the classroom and gets them to demonstrate safety behaviours and practice skills. TPSDI's safety courses are designed to with a 60:40 proportion of time allotted to classroom and practice respectively.

A minimum of 40% of the training time is devoted to practicing safety skills. For instance, trainees practice using appropriate fire extinguishers or practice providing CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation). In more specialized courses, trainees learn and practice using a full body safety harness with double lanyards to climb transmission towers and work safely at heights.

TPSDI's Safety training is geared up for:

TPSDI, over the years, has trained over a 150,000 people through its Safety courses.

In Tata Power itself, TPSDI's comprehensive safety training has helped achieve key safety index measures such as bring down Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR), increase safety observations, reduce the numbers across a slew of measures such as safety incidents, reduce near misses, incidents, Lost Time Injuries, major fires and fatalities.

The Institute, with a proper training needs analysis (TNA) can customize and deploy training to meet the requirements of an organisation. TPSDI's training can facilitate transformative changes in safety practices across multiple industries.
