A new paradigm in skill development.

The Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) was established by Tata Power Company Limited to bridge the skill gap in the Energy Sector and equip individuals with employable skills.

Established in 2015 as part of Tata Power's Centenary Year Celebrations, this skill development institute has trained over 2,75,000 people successfully as of January 2024.

TPSDI's vision is be the Best-in-Class Technical Training Institute for Contemporary and Future Industrial Skills to empower people in a sustainable manner. To achieve this vision, TPSDI has established six Training Hubs and five Training Spokes across the country, utilizing Tata Power's joint ventures and subsidiaries' resources. These training centres are staffed with capable and experienced faculty who are backed by Tata Power's deep and extensive expertise in the traditional power sector, safety, and green energy skills.

Apart from these centres, TPSDI conducted training at numerous locations across the country (more than 43) and internationally, in Bhutan, Ethiopia, and Liberia.

The modular training and certification programs offered by TPSDI equip trainees with a wide range of Power Sector skills, covering Renewable, Green, and Traditional Energy sources, Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution.

TPSDI offers training in Green Energy, Safety Health & Environment, Transmission & Distribution, Power Systems, and Soft Skills, utilizing a unique training approach designed for delivering skills with speed, scale, and standards. TPSDI's courses and approach heavily "emphasize hands-on" training on skills. All TPSDI centres are equipped with life-sized industrial equipment, instruments, and models on which trainees can practice and hone their skills.

TPSDI strives to be at the forefront of skill development by continuously exploring and incorporating the latest trends, practices, and technological developments in the power and green energy sector and in safety. The training effectiveness is enhanced by incorporating training technologies such as video-based learning, e-learning, simulators, and virtual reality.

The institute skills professionals at all levels within the Power/Energy and allied sectors - training not only Tata Power employees and Tata Power's contract workforce but also those from other companies. In doing so, TPSDI plays a crucial role in disseminating Tata Power's established practices and fostering a culture that prioritizes safety and excellence in the industry.

TPSDI provides training to students from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Polytechnics, Engineering, and Non-Technical Colleges, preparing them for the industry. These courses are designed to enhance employability and complement their mainstream education with skills that are directly relevant to the industry.

In addition to catering to the corporates and students, TPSDI extends its training to members of the wider community, focusing on imparting employability skills and improving livelihoods within its connected communities.

The institute serves professionals at all levels within the Power/Energy Sector and plays a crucial role in fostering a culture that prioritizes safety and excellence in the industry. Leveraging Tata Power's centuries of experience, it effectively enhances the skills of employees in the power and allied sectors, ensuring business is conducted with optimal efficiency and safety.

Moreover, the institute remains at the forefront of skill development by continuously exploring the latest trends in the power and renewable energy sector, while also creating cutting-edge courseware for emerging technologies.

Additionally, TPSDI provides training to students from ITIs, Polytechnics, Engineering, and Non-Technical Colleges, preparing them for the industry. These courses are designed to enhance employability and complement their institutional education with skills that are directly relevant to the industry.

In addition to catering to corporates and students, TPSDI extends its training to members of the wider community, focusing on imparting employability skills and improving livelihoods within its connected communities. Moreover, the institute also provides training to both direct and indirect Tata Power employees.

TPSDI is Empanelled with India's Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) and Power Sector Skill Council (PSSC). TPSDI-Shahad, TPSDI-Maithon are also centres recognized by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) as Grade I training Institutes. The training courses at TPSDI follow the TPSDI Competency Framework, which aligns with the National Skill Quality Framework (NSQF). This framework enables participants to acquire deployable skills at standardized targeted levels and also encourages them to continuously upgrade their skills over time.

TPSDI, like its parent company, Tata Power, has pivoted to offer comprehensive training in green energy and offers extensive courses in this sunrise field. TPSDI offers specialized training in solar, hydro, and wind energy tailored to various audiences, including professionals and students aspiring to acquire the skillset for green jobs.
